WHAT IS A PHEROMONE?
A Pheromone is a group of semiochemicals, which are emitted by many insects to
attract their mates.
Pheromones play an important role in Integrated Pest Management
since they provide a tool for monitoring insect behaviour and presence.
With more insects showing insecticide resistance, the use of alternative control
methods is crucial.
Integrated Pest Management allows measurement of infestation levels
and provides a control for insect pests by mass trapping or by mating disruption.
